Bún bò Huế recipe: In 12 easy steps

This recipe makes 8-10 servings of bún bò (bun bo hue), if you want to make 4-6 servings you can halve the quantities of the listed ingredients, for example use 3.5 litres of water.

I recommend making 8-10 servings especially because it can be a long process making the broth, so you might as well refrigerate or freeze a bit of the stock and use this to effortlessly make a bowl of bún bò during a busy week. Also refrigerating the stock will allow the flavour to develop.

Part 1 of the bún bò recipe

This is mainly about making the broth.

Part 2 of the bún bò recipe

This is about completing the broth, slicing the meat, chopping the herbs, and cooking the noodles.

The chilli oil mixture (step 7), gives bún bò that spicy kick. It can be added to the pot if everyone you are cooking for likes spicy hot food. However if you are cooking for some people who don't like their food too spicy, just add a teaspoon amount to the broth; or leave the chilli oil mixture to one side and add it accordingly to each bowl, before serving.

Part 3 of the bún bò recipe

The final part of the recipe is about serving the dish.
